A Good and Grievous Day (Mark 15:6-47)

Sermon Notes:

1. The day of Christ’s crucifixion is a grievous day…

   a) …because of the man on the cross.

   i. The promised seed (Gen. 3:15; 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Is. 9:6-7; Matt. 1:1; Rom. 5:12-21)

   ii. God incarnate (Is. 9:6; Ez. 34:15, 23; John 1:1-5, 9-18; Phil. 2:1-11; Col. 2:9; Rev. 1:17-18)

   b) …because of the sin He bore (Is. 53:1-9; Rom. 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 2:24)

2. The day of Christ’s crucifixion is a good day…

   a) …because the Father is pleased (Is. 53:10; Acts 2:23)

   b) …because the Son rejoices (Is. 52:13, 53:11-12; John 10:11, 17-18; Heb. 12:2; Cf. John 4:34, 10:30)

   c) …because God’s people are saved (Is. 53:5-6, 10-12; Matt. 1:21; Rom. 3:23-26, 8:1; Titus 2:11-14; Heb. 1:3, 10:1-18; Rev. 5:9-10)

   d) …because the sheep are eternally shepherded (John 10:27-30; Rom. 5:9-10, 8:1, 31-39; Hebrews 12:5-11; 1 John 2:1-2, 3:1-3; Jude 24-25; Rev. 7:9-17, 21:1-8, 22:1-5)

   e) …because of Sunday (1 Cor. 15:1-22)
