The Law and Its Proper Use (1 Timothy 1:8-11)

The Law is good. (v. 8, Rom 7:7-13)
The Law is not made for believers. (v. 9a)
a. Because believers are the righteousness of God. (2 Cor 5:21, Rom 8:1-2)
b. Because believers are no longer under the Mosaic law. (Rom 7:1-4)
c. Because believers are now under the law of Christ. (1 Cor 9:20-21)
The Law’s benefits for the believer.
a. The Law reveals God’s nature.
b. The Law reveals Christ.
c. The Law provides wisdom.
The Law is made for unbelievers. (vv. 9b-10, Gal 3:19)
a. The Law convicts the unrighteous of sin. (Rom 3:20)
b. The Law reveals our need for the gospel. (Gal 3:23-25)
The Gospel is the answer to the Law. (vv. 10b-11)
a. The Gospel produces spiritual health. (v. 10b, Eph 2:1-6)
b. The Gospel reveals the glory of the blessed God. (v. 11a)
c. The Gospel is a gift we must protect and share with others. (v. 11b)
